• Joanna protected land expansion (myclintonnews.com) — A major land conservation deal near Joanna will add 1,950 acres to the Sumter National Forest and connect to a planned 335-acre Laurens County park, expanding public access for local residents. The Nature Conservancy transferred the property to the U.S. Forest Service, promising more space for hiking, hunting, and enjoying protected forests and streams close to home.
   

• Families frustrated after guilty plea recanted in Laurens County boating deaths (wyff4.com) — Families connected to a 2025 Lake Greenwood boating crash came to Laurens County Court expecting a guilty plea, only to learn the defendant withdrew his agreement to a 17-year sentence. Prosecutors now expect a plea hearing the week of Oct. 26, and if no deal is entered, the case involving two boating-under-the-influence deaths will go to trial.
