Information about Corley Mill Road Bridge replacement, public comment accepted until Aug. 28 (westmetronews.com) β If you drive Corley Mill Road near River Bluff High, a new bridge over Twelve Mile Creek is planned, with construction expected to start in 2028 and keep traffic flowing via a nearby temporary span. SCDOT is taking public comments on the design, including wider lanes and an extended turn lane into the school, through August 28, 2026.

2. Overdose Awareness Day observance slated Aug. 31 (lexingtonchronicle.com) β Families affected by overdose in Lexington are invited to an International Overdose Awareness Day observance on Monday, Aug. 31, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Lexington Student Center. A local mother who lost her Lexington High School student will speak, and organizers are collecting photos to honor loved ones while sharing recovery and naloxone resources.

3. The Courage Center earns FBI award (thelakemurraynews.net) β A Lexington-based ceremony at the FBI Columbia Field Office honored The Courage Center with the 2025 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award for its work fighting addiction across the Midlands. The nonprofit supports people in recovery, distributes NARCAN and fentanyl test strips, and is building new programs for students who test positive for substances.

4. Lexington Co. man sentenced after murdering 2 people while stealing their cars (thestate.com) β A Lexington County man will spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to a second murder tied to car thefts in the Leesville and Pelion areas. Prosecutors say he and a co-defendant robbed and fatally shot two men in late 2023, abandoning their bodies in remote locations and stealing their vehicles before being brought to justice.
