Brookland-Cayce student named National Merit semifinalist (lexingtonchronicle.com) — A Brookland-Cayce High School senior in Lexington School District Two has been named a National Merit Scholarship semifinalist, placing among the top 1% of test-takers nationwide. Another senior earned commended scholar status, showcasing strong academic performance and recognition for local students as they move into the competitive scholarship phase through 2027.
3. Michelin partnership sparks classroom innovation across Lexington District 1 (lexingtonchronicle.com) — More than 1,000 Lexington District One students will get new hands-on learning experiences this school year thanks to $5,000 in Michelin Golden Apple Teacher Grants. Eleven teachers across nine local schools, including Lexington Elementary, River Bluff, and White Knoll, will use up to $500 each for creative STEM, literacy, and inclusion projects that go beyond standard classroom budgets.
4. West Columbia man charged with attempted murder after shooting at Lexington County deputy (wach.com) — Lexington County deputies responding to repeated 911 calls in West Columbia say a man opened fire on a master deputy with a semiautomatic shotgun, prompting both deputies to return fire. The suspect, barred from owning guns due to a prior conviction, was wounded, hospitalized, and now faces attempted murder and weapons charges as SLED continues its investigation.
5. W50 Lexington, SC: Arantxa Rus vs Malaika Rapolu Odds & Predictions (Oct. 8, 2026) (polymarket.com) — A professional women's tennis match between Arantxa Rus and Malaika Rapolu is set in the W50 Lexington main draw, with betting rules laid out for every possible outcome.
