Did you know that Mt. Pleasant is the 4th largest city in the state of South Carolina? With that statement alone, I think it is crucial that we have more than 1 high school. Wando is excellent. They built a technology center to alleviate overcrowding - only 15 classrooms in that building will be used primarily for AP classes. The remainder of the space is not your typical classroom / space.
Below is a listing - straight from a presentation given by the building department - that will show the number of available lots and homes which started building as of February 2013.
Carolina Park - 2,030 total. 1,205 will be quick build the remainder are larger lots and larger homes they anticipate to take longer to occupy.
Pepper Plantation - 334
Darrell Creek - 90 to 100
Park West 250 to 300 (Cambridge Square will house most)
Dunes West 200 - 250
Rivertowne 200 (Tributary & vacant lots)
Oyster Point - 592 (consisting of 474 single family and 188 townhomes)
Hamlin Plantation 80 - 100
Charleston National 50
Add all those possible / probable homes together and you have a very overcrowded high school and town.
