1. Mount Pleasant Design and Review Board to discuss Shem Creek landing expansion, LL Bean (abcnews4.com) — Mount Pleasant's Commercial Design Review Board meets at 5 p.m. Wednesday to review early plans for expanding the Shem Creek Boat Landing and bringing new Crate & Barrel and L.L. Bean stores to Mount Pleasant Town Centre. These projects are still in preliminary review, but officials are expected to share more details before developers return with final plans and seek construction permits.
2. 'It's a nightmare': Final plans approved for Shem Creek Boat Landing expansion (live5news.com) — Mount Pleasant boaters will soon see relief at Shem Creek Boat Landing after the town's Design and Review Board approved final plans for a parking and access expansion. Charleston County Parks will add 13 trailer spaces, ADA spots, a kayak launch, pervious paving, and a Simmons Street entrance to ease congestion that local captains say currently turns peak hours into a stressful bottleneck.
3. Jennie Moore Elementary teacher surprised with national American Heart Association award (counton2.com) — A longtime Jennie Moore Elementary teacher in Mount Pleasant has been nationally honored for two decades of leading the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge. Jennifer Dawson's energetic lessons on heart health and giving back have helped hundreds of local students raise more than $580,000, while making the school South Carolina's top fundraiser and inspiring children to stay active and help others.
4. Photo essay: Big Trump Head appears across area (charlestoncitypaper.com) — A retired Mount Pleasant entrepreneur is touring a giant papier-mâché Trump head around Mount Pleasant Towne Centre, the municipal complex, and other Charleston-area landmarks to protest the Iran war and rising gas prices. His daily photo series, shared through the election, aims to remind Lowcountry residents of the conflict's costs at the pump, in taxes, and in lives.
5. 'It's you who pays the price': Andrews urges action on soaring diesel costs (abcnews4.com) — A U.S. Senate candidate stopped at Abundant Seafood in Mount Pleasant to spotlight how soaring diesel prices are squeezing local fishermen, truckers, and families. She blamed federal policy and the ongoing Iran war, proposed temporary fuel tax relief, and clashed with the incumbent's campaign over whether more domestic production or tax suspensions are the best long-term fix for Lowcountry costs.
