Big Crowd for MUSC Go Red Run

More than 500 runners and walkers from all over the South Carolina Lowcountry turned out Saturday morning for the Go Red! Heart 5K Run and Walk in Mount Pleasant.

In its second year, organizers predict the event raised at least $10,000 to be split between the American Heart Association’s Go Red campaign and MUSC’s Women’s Heart Care Program.

For Stephanie Carter, the run’s founder and co-chairman, the event is personal. Her mom, Robin Seay, died in 2007 at age 47 from a massive heart attack. The event is held in Seay’s honor.

“I wanted to do something positive to inspire others to learn about heart-health awareness,” Carter said. “It feels really good to turn my mom’s loss, which is such a bad thing, into something good.”
