Dads: Have a Serious Talk This Weekend

Fathers' Day Challenge — push your sons and daughters to prepare for the workforce!

Fathers' Day!  Most of us Fathers will get to either visit with or talk with our children this weekend.  After all, it's mandatory for them to pay us some homage, right?  Let me lay something that might be a little heavy on you Fathers.  Take this opportunity this weekend to speak with your son or daughter about their future...this is your duty as a Father.  If they have not taken some steps to prepare for their future in regards to their work life or possibly more stable work and increase in incomes, then you might push them a bit.  Many of us have been pushing our kids for years ... often they don't listen to us.  My real challenge is for those Fathers who have adult sons or daughters who are not fully prepared to begin a career or do not have a solid background to gain solid employment.  Maybe it's time for the tough love that Dave Ramsey and James Dobson write about.  I challenge you to push them, encourage them to make plans for an education or formal training.  It is and always will be your duty to push your sons and daughters, while you love them along the way, to better themselves.  I remain convinced that there is a path for education and training for everyone.  So, use Father's Day this year to assess your son or daughter's current status in regards to education or training; then have a chat and help them move forward if they are lacking in credentials and skills.  My promise to you is that I will sit with anyone and at your convenience to give you and your kids advice and strategies on how to start or re-start their educations or formal training plans ... even if this does not include attending our college, Trident Technical College.  Happy Fathers' Day --- be a great Dad and remember my challenge.  Mike Patterson
