Strawberry Picking

Strawberry picking at local farms

Today was the most gorgeous day, and our family went to pick our delicious spring time fruit, strawberries at Boone Hall Farms.  My children gathered up their buckets, and we headed down the rows.  One, two three, what?  11 pounds already?  Oh my stars!  As I was talking to another mom about what all we could do with strawberries, my kids swiped up 11 lbs.  Wow, that was fast!  In the next few weeks, I would encourage everyone to take their family out to pick strawberries, support our local farms, and indulge in this short lived season of sweet, ripe, red strawberries.

What we did when we got home is this:  Spread them all out to dry a little, but do not wash them (you only do that before you eat them,) and then put them in containers and into the fridge.  Now, of course, they all did not make it into the fridge.  For the kids, I made a smoothie using strawberries, fresh pineapple, white grape juice, and spinach (oh yeah, they didn't even know:), and for my hubby and me, I made an "adult" smoothie.  They were both delicious!

We would all love some recipes using strawberries, if you would please "comment" below.  Thanks in advance for all who will read and use it.

Here are some local places for you to go to pick your strawberries.  Enjoy!
