We love summer at our house. Laid back, no schedules, no homework! Despite this mom having to work everyday, it certainly creates a good household feeling and puts everyone in a better mood. We take advantage of this extra time together to try new things. We’re only in week 2 of summer, and my children have learned to play Scrabble & Yahtzee courtesy of this “unplugged summer” mom. My kids now know Scrabble as the original “Words with Friends.”

The Square Onion, conveniently situated in the village in the front of I’on, is offering a “kids eat free” special Monday through Thursday from 3-6 pm. Just purchase an adult meal, and you can receive a kid’s meal for free. The Square Onion is one of my favorite spots in Mt. Pleasant. They offer fresh sandwiches, soups, take-and-bake casseroles, dinner entrees, and appetizers. Their kids’ menu has a variety of choices and includes Baked Chicken Fingers, Grilled Cheese, and Deli Sandwiches. All of these choices can be paired with a variety of daily sides like Edamame Salad, Fruit, Broccoli Slaw, or Pasta Salad. They don’t use fryers, and there are plenty of healthy choices available. The outdoor seating area is inviting for families perfect for an early dinner.
Kids love frozen yogurt (me too!). Tutti Frutti Yogurt, in the Patriots Point Shopping Center on Houston Northcutt Boulevard in Mt. Pleasant opened its doors in late March. They offer different varieties of frozen yogurt and a self-serve topping bar. It’s a hit with children and families since they offer gluten-free and dairy-free options. On Wednesdays, during the months of June & July, kids 12 and under get a free yogurt (up to $4) with a paying adult. All day! Cool off with that!
