In honor of lowcountry shrimpers, festivities include a boat parade, ceremonial blessing of the shrimp/fishing fleet, savory seafood samplings sold by some of Mount Pleasant's best restaurants, live music, an arts/crafts show, shag and shrimp-eating contests, and family-friendly activities. Proceeds benefit the local shrimping industry along with a nonprofit that is selected each year by the planning committee. East Cooper Community Outreach, East Cooper Meals on Wheels and Louie’s Kids are among the previous beneficiaries.
