The CPC takes place at the fire station on beautiful Sullivan's Island, SC. The course is USTAF certified and very flat and fast. Temperatures vary from cold to mild and lend themselves to fast running. Cash prizes for the Top 3 overall winners in each race, and awards will be given 3 deep for each age group. The 2012 race will improve on the 2011 race in several ways: more porta-jons, more water, more volunteers and better signage at the 5K/15K split.
The run is held in honor of Dr. Charlie Post. Charlie Post died in 1984 from complications resulting from a bicycle accident that occurred the previous year. Charlie was an avid endurance athlete and participated in running and triathlon events. He was a member of the Charleston Running Club and organized a race called The Family Practice Fitness Run in 1980. The race was named for him in 1984 and continues on today as a fundraiser for the Charlie Post Memorial Scholarship at the College of Charleston.
