Wando Girls Win 4A XC Title; Boys Finish 4th

The Warriors' balanced team effort took championship in Columbia.

The Wando High School girls cross country team took the 4A state title on Saturday in Columbia behind a balanced team effort.

The Warriors' top five runners finished between seventh and 28th in the event -- all within 53 seconds of one another.

Junior Georgia Compton (seventh place, 18:58) and freshman Rosa Marie Compton (10th, 19:05) took All-State honors. Following close behind were junior Melissa Fairey (18th, 19:27), freshman Gabrielle Milton (22nd, 19:35) and senior Lucy Rummler (28th, 19:51).

The Warrior boys team finished fourth,led by an All-State performance in freshman Andrew Gawryluk, who finished 11th with a time of 16:09.
