
"Toxic Charity" Event Examines Potential Harms of Chairities
Author Robert Lupton leads lecture and discussion about his book, Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Reverse It)
Trident United Way, Coastal Community Foundation, and SVP Charleston (SVPC) are teaming up to host the educational event, "When Charity Goes Toxic," Friday Nov. 1 2013 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at the Riviera Theatre at Charleston Place Hotel, 225 King St., Charleston, S.C., 29401. Tailored for Charleston-area nonprofit organizations, this informative event will include a lecture by author Robert Lupton and a panel discussion about the potential toxic effects that charities can bring to the very people they seek to benefit.
The panel includes Robert Lupton (featured author), Chris Kerrigan (President & CEO, Trident United Way), Michelle Mapp (Executive Director, Lowcountry Housing Trust), Bernie Mazyck (President & CEO, South Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations), Rev. Bill Stanfield (CEO, Metanoia and Dr. George Stevens (President & CEO, Coastal Community Foundation).
