Zentangle Art Taking Over the Beach at IOP

Caren Mlot, a Certified Zentangle Teacher, leads effort to create "sandtangles" at IOP beach.

Mt. Pleasant, SC (Nov. 4, 2014) — On Oct. 24th, Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O’Donnell introduced the audience of ABC’s The View to an art form called Zentangle®. For the past three years, Mt. Pleasant’s Certified Zentangle Teacher Caren Mlot has been spreading the joy of Zentangle to residents of the Lowcountry through her introductory and advanced classes at Hobby Lobby. On Friday, Nov. 7, Caren will be joined by a number of her students to celebrate Zentangle by creating “sandtangles” to transform the beach at Isle of Palms into a work of art. Barring inclement weather, the group will begin tangling in the sand by the pier around 10:30 a.m. The best time to view the art work is expected to be around noon. If the event is cancelled due to rain, it will be rescheduled for Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 12, with the best viewing time around 3:30.

What is Zentangle®? It’s a popular new method for creating beautiful images from structured patterns. Even “non-artists” are amazed by the artwork they create. Originated by Rick Roberts and Maria Thomas, the Zentangle method is designed to be simple to understand and easy to enjoy. On their official Zentangle website (www.zentangle.com), Roberts and Thomas draw parallels between the art form and life. They write, “There is no eraser in life and there is no eraser in a Zentangle Kit.”
