Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Myrtle Beach police arrested one person after an apparent assault at the Waikiki Village Retro Hotel on South Ocean Boulevard. The assault occurred around 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, August 28 in the parking lot of the hotel located in the 1500 block of South Ocean Boulevard. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The name of the person arrested has not been released as of the time of this posting. (WBTW) (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook) (WMBF)
  2. North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad crews used the team's new amphibious boat to save a swimmer with a medical condition. On Saturday, a person was swimming in the ocean when they experienced an undisclosed medical situation. Several first responders arrived on-scene and rescued the person from the water, bringing them to shore with the new vehicle. The crew provided care aboard the boat while it was in the water. The boat is named Merlin Bellamy after a former NMB police chief. (wpde.com)
  3. Two people were injured and taken to the hospital after a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on Highway 544 Saturday night. The crash blocked traffic around 8:30 p.m. Saturday near Bradford Circle. There is no update on injuries as of the time of this posting. (WBTW)
  4. The peak of hurricane season is in about two weeks, but the good news is so far none of the systems brewing in the tropics are headed this way. There are a couple of disturbances in the Caribbean and off the coast of Africa at the moment. The chances of development seem slim for any of these to turn into a named storm headed for the Carolinas. Keep an eye on weather reports for the next several weeks and always have your storm plans and evacuation route ready to go just in case! (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
