Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- One person is dead, and three others were wounded in a shooting Sunday morning in Myrtle Beach. Police responded to reports of gunshots around 1:30 a.m. near 12th Avenue North and Withers Alley, but say the shooting occurred a block away. All four victims were taken to the hospital, two were released, one remains hospitalized, and one died of their wounds. Police have indicated that all the people involved are from Florence County, and they are asking the public to come forward with information. All info received can remain anonymous. (WBTW) (WMBF)
- A boating incident on the Waccamaw River Saturday night resulted in the death of a 40-year-old Conway man. The boat crash occurred near Bucksville Landing, and is still under investigation. Authorities have not released the name of the deceased person. (WMBF)
- Taxi cab company owners and drivers are asking the City of Myrtle Beach to increase cab fare rates. The issue has been added to the City Council's meeting agenda for this Tuesday, April 26. Cab drivers are feeling the pinch of gas prices and inflation. They have not seen a rate increase since 2008. There are more than 40 cab companies operating within city limits, and regulated by the city. In order for the rate increase to happen, the agenda item has to be approved by council, and then be subjected to public comment, and a final reading. (Myhorrynews)
- You can feel it in the air — summer is almost here. With that in mind, some of the scheduled fireworks displays have been announced including the Thursday night Broadway at the Beach fireworks shows after Pelicans' games, and of course the 4th of July show at the Second Avenue Pier. A list of 2022 fireworks shows scheduled so far, from now through December 31, is listed within the linked article. (wpde.com)
- Chicora Rotary Club will be naming Myrtle Beach's Firefighter of the Year Friday at the club's weekly meeting. The four finalists up for the award are Lloyd "Thad" Bowman, Joseph Friedman, Mark Walsh, and Lt. Brian Whittington. Congrats to all the nominees. The award recipient will be announced at the rotary club's meeting, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. at Dunes Golf and Beach Club. (Chicora Rotary Club)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
