Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- MBPD in conjunction with the IRS and the Department of Homeland Security worked on a multi-year investigation that has resulted in several people connected to the construction industry being convicted for employment tax fraud and hiring of unauthorized aliens. A dozen defendants pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the U.S. and unlawful employment of aliens. The defendants were given various different sentences consisting of probation, home confinement with location monitoring, and restitution. (WMBF)
- Ready for a surprise? The Enterprise Road bridge that was scheduled to open towards the end of June is now open. SCDOT thanked staffers who worked hard to accelerate the reopening. The closure caused the Enterprise neighborhood to be physically split in two for months, inconveniencing the community. The bridge has been closed since December when it was hit by a tractor trailer with an oversized load on board. (wpde.com)
- Speaking of bridges, the Barefoot Resort Road Bridge has also re-opened. The swing bridge in Barefoot Resort had experienced a mechanical problem a couple of weeks ago that caused it to require manual operation twice a day, causing road closures for long periods of time each day. The bridge is now operating normally. (nmb.us)
- Atlantic Beach BikeFest is gearing up for its return from a two-year absence. Get ready, because past festivals have brought over 100,000 people into the four-block-long beachside community between Crescent Beach and Windy Hill. The festival officially starts today, but riders have been arriving all week. (wpde.com)
- Here's some info you might need to know if you're spending Memorial Day weekend on the Grand Strand, or if you have friends and relatives visiting you. From motorcycle info to fireworks, noise rules, beach dos and don'ts, rules about curfews, golf carts, mopeds and traffic patterns, ABC 15 has covered it all here. (wpde.com)
Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
Today's photo of the day comes to us from Richard Slomka. Nothing says summer more than a child happily running from the waves in North Myrtle Beach. Great pic, Richard!

- Horry County Schools and administrative offices will be closed for Memorial Day on Monday, May 30. Facilities will re-open on June 1. (Facebook)
- Survey says: no. People in Surfside Beach were recently asked if they thought charging an admission fee to the new pier was a good idea. The question was met with an overwhelmingly negative response. The item will be added to the next town council meeting agenda. (WBTW)
- Anyone who has visited Market Common for more than a couple hours knows that one thing the bustling section of town needs is public restrooms. At long last, the city of Myrtle Beach announced that restrooms have been authorized and will be placed near the Valor Memorial Garden in as little as eight weeks from now. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
