Let's take a quick peek at Wednesday's weather:

Sunny to partly cloudy. High: 68 Low: 53.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The biggest criminal IRS scheme in Grand Strand history has resulted in twelve people pleading guilty to tax fraud charges and unlawfully hiring undocumented workers. The IRS and Homeland Security investigation of seven construction companies began in 2018. It is estimated that around $15 million worth of fraudulent transactions were made by the 12 individuals from Horry County implicated in the operation. (WBTW)
  2. Get ready for the second semester, Horry County parents. The school board has announced that families will have the choice of in-person or online learning for the spring semester of the 2021-2022 school year for all Horry County schools. There will be separate enrollment date windows in November for either option, to give officials an idea of how many students will be enrolled in each plan. Superintendent Maxey says its best to make a decision based on individual families' needs, regardless of what COVID is doing. (wpde.com)
  3. If you're voting in the city of Myrtle Beach on November 2nd, you may need to know about some voting precinct changes announced this week. The Sea Oats #2 precinct will merge with Sea Oats #1. Voting for the combined precinct will take place at the First Baptist Church on 4th Avenue North, in the gym. (WMBF)
  4. The City of Myrtle Beach reached a settlement in a federal lawsuit in which a jury found that the city would not implement the same discriminatory traffic patterns for Harley Bike Week or Memorial Day Weekend as it did for Black Bike Week. The city will pay $50K to the NAACP in the settlement agreement that was reached in early October. Myrtle Beach is also required to hire a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, as well as traffic and safety experts to make recommendations for future events. (WBTW)
  5. Dredging of sandbars near the Cherry Grove canals started this week. The project will help boaters navigate the shallow waters within the canals during low tide, and will help people fishing off the Cherry Grove pier. The canals and the pier will be open during dredging. The project will take approximately three months to complete. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
