Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- A house fire on Juxa Drive Sunday morning was upgraded to a 3-alarm event, and took the morning to get under control. Eight others were displaced and are being helped by the Red Cross. (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach City Hall will be closed today due to a ruptured water heater that caused damage to the building's first and second floors at 937 Broadway Street. - Two Grand Strand restaurants are leaving an open seat for the 13 US troops killed in Kabul, Afghanistan last week. The Tavern in Surfside, and the Tavern In The Forest, both paid tribute to the fallen troops by setting up reserved tables in their establishments on Saturday. (WMBF)
- A person was taken to the hospital after a Dodge SUV landed in a pond Sunday near Litchfield Country Club Drive. There are unconfirmed reports that another person, believed to be a SC state trooper, jumped into the water and rescued the vehicle's occupant who was later brought to Grand Strand Hospital. (WBTW)
- The Department of Motor Vehicles has reinstated its requirement for appointments for driving tests, effective today. The decision comes on the heels of a rapid rise in COVID-19 cases statewide. The DMV will also return to driving tests with the examiner remaining outside of the vehicle and scoring the test at a distance, as it did when the pandemic first began. That change will go into effect on September 7th. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
