Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Five people, two of them juveniles, are in custody charged in connection with the homicide investigation surrounding the shooting death of 17-year-old Florence athlete Joshua McPherson. Various charges for each person include burglary and murder. (wpde.com)
  2. A colleague of pilot Dave Flading, who was killed in a banner plane crash last weekend in North Myrtle Beach, shared her memories of him with WMBF News. Jessica Keefer, who worked with Flading for 14 years, described him as "the hardest worker I ever knew. Ever." Flading, who was originally from Pennsylvania, worked several jobs including flying the recognizable yellow-and-black plane — the colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers. (WMBF)
  3. The Myrtle Beach Police Department sent out a special thank you to officers and bystanders who took action to help a motorcyclist trapped under a vehicle. Note: The video in the Facebook link may be upsetting to some viewers. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon on Ocean Boulevard. MBPD wants to remind everyone to remember to drive slowly and look twice for safety. Also, leave extra space between your vehicle and others. (Facebook)
  4. Army veteran Dewayne Jones received this year's Roof For Troops roof replacement from Monarch Roofing. Jones was presented with the prize on Wednesday, and he also received two VIP passes to the Carolina Country Music Festival. Jones served six years in the Army in Korea and Quatar. He also served in SC during the historic floods of 2015. (wpde.com)
  5. Horry County Police are searching for a man who was seen vandalizing a large diesel fuel tank and removing a political sign in Little River. The vandalism was caught on surveillance video near Water Front Avenue at the marina. The man climbed a ladder and removed a "Re-Elect Harold Worley" sign from a large fuel tank, then attached a truck, and then a tractor to the fuel tank and tried to pull it down. There was also a report of an electrical box on the property being turned off, and a lock on that box was replaced with a different lock. (WBTW)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

One more photo from the Witherel family. This cutie pie is having a great time with bubbles at the beach, and wearing flotation gear, besides! Thanks again for the adorable pics, Witherels!

The bags come from the FETCH Foundation, and each one includes an oxygen mask, leashes, wipes and other supplies for firefighters to use to help pets involved in a fire. Each of the six fire stations will receive a bag. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
