Hello, Grand Strand! This is Kathy Mandell with your Tuesday, May 24, 2022 edition of the Myrtle Beach Daily, filled with all the local news you need to know right now. Follow along for the latest.

CORRECTION: There was an error in Monday's MB Daily. I mistakenly stated that the REAL ID requirements for air travel are already in effect. In fact, the requirements begin a year from now, on May 3, 2023. I apologize for the mistake, and thank several eagle-eyed readers who notified me of the error. (wpde.com)

Let's have a look at Tuesday's weather:

Humid; an afternoon t-storm. High: 83 Low: 70.

  4. New details have emerged in the death of a man who was rescued from the ocean in North Myrtle Beach last weekend. In a police report, two people who knew the man say he was body surfing in waist-deep water moments before he was pulled onto the beach by a beachgoer who had seen him face down in the water. Someone performed chest compressions while a lifeguard provided air from a bag valve mask until EMS arrived and took him to the hospital where he later died. The man's identity has not been released. (WMBF)
  5. 70-year-old former Horry County deputy, Stephen Flood, remains hospitalized with a Marion County deputy stationed at the medical facility where Flood has been since Friday. The Marion County Sheriff says a deputy will remain with Flood until he is released from the hospital and put into the custody of the SC Department of Corrections. One of Flood's attorneys stated during court proceedings that the man had a heart condition. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Tuesday's pic of the day was submitted by Deatra Lopez, who snapped this great photo of a flock of terns and their reflections on the wet sand. Royal Terns, seen here, are only found near salt water. They have orange beaks and black "caps" on top of their heads. Thanks for the cute photo, Deatra!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
