Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- A two-vehicle crash blocked both lanes of Highway 707 near Enterprise Road mid-morning on Monday. Two people were injured in the crash that occurred around 9:45 a.m. Horry County Fire Rescue crews worked to clear the scene and had drivers seek alternate routes to avoid the area. The two injured parties were taken to the hospital with no specific information on their injuries. SC Highway Patrol is investigating. (WMBF)
- On Sunday, two people were taken to the hospital after a reported assault call in Myrtle Beach. The MB Police responded to the call at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, near 7th Avenue North. Officers say the area is safe, and an active investigation is happening. They are welcoming anonymous calls regarding the apparent assault at (843) 918-1382. There is no word on the condition of the two victims as of the time of this posting. (wpde.com)
- Myrtle Beach gas prices are having a roller coaster ride lately. After learning that prices had gone down after Labor Day — the end of the typical summer tourist season, now prices are reportedly on the rise again. GasBuddy released data indicating that prices here have risen by 5 cents per gallon during the past week. Increased demand and decreased production due to Hurricane Ida seems to be the cause. Experts say things should improve in a couple weeks. (WBTW)
- Horry County Schools reports that they are seeing more students with anxiety, and point to mask-wearing debates and hybrid schedules this year as the source of increased mental health issues in school children. The district wants to focus on mental health, and told parents what signs to look for in their children to determine if they are experiencing anxiety. The schools have resources available for anyone who needs additional help with mental health concerns. (WMBF)
- The family of an Horry County woman who drowned in a Sheriff's Office van during Hurricane Florence in 2018 has filed a lawsuit against the consulting company that created the Sheriff's Office policies. Wendy Haywood Newton drowned after being trapped in a transport van during flooding from the hurricane. The lawsuit has been filed against Moseley Architects who designed policies and procedures for the Sheriff's Office. The family claims that those policies failed due to a lack of protocols, which resulted in Newton's death. Nicolette Green also died in the same incident. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
