Nice with periods of sun. High: 72 Low: 55.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has released a report on 2020 crime statistics and the results are staggering. There was reportedly an alarming increase in violent crimes across the state that year. In Horry County, murders increased 120%, and aggravated assault increased 28%. SLED stated that drugs, criminal access to guns, and gang activity contributed to the increase in violent crime statewide. (WMBF)
  2. As of the time of posting, Grand Strand resident, Holly Turner, is waiting patiently for her parents' arrival in town after not seeing them for almost two years. Turner's parents live in Canada, and the families have been unable to visit each other due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. In order to cross the border, Canadians experienced lengthy wait times on Tuesday. According to the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Canadians are the number one international visitors to visit the Grand Strand annually. (WIS10)
  3. On Monday, the Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach held a special ceremony to honor veterans ahead of November 11th (Veterans Day). The ceremony consisted of an honorable military salute, a reading of the Armed Forces code of conduct, and honors to some local veterans. Air Force Colonel Steve Jones spoke at the event about his 25 years of military service. (WBTW)
  4. Another Powerball winner on the Grand Strand! This time, a Surfside Beach resident is the lucky winner of a million bucks. The winning ticket was purchased at Gator's Liquor on Highway 17. This win makes three Grand Strand players who've won over $1 million in 2021. A scratch ticket sold at Coastal Petrol won $2 million in June; and in July, a Mega Millions player won $3 million. (WMBF)
  5. A North Carolina teenager is in custody, and charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the late-October shooting death of Patrick Smith. The shooting occurred on Shore Drive in Myrtle Beach during the wee hours of October 30th. At that time, Smith was wounded and alive, lying on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound and a broken arm. Smith later died at the hospital. The 17-year-old suspect is being held at Long Detention Center, without bail. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
