McLeod Health gives inside look at new 48-bed Carolina Forest hospital opening this fall (myhorrynews.com) — A new 48-bed McLeod Health Carolina Forest Hospital near Myrtle Beach is set to open this fall, bringing the area its first inpatient hospital and 24/7 emergency care. Hundreds of residents toured the four-story facility, which will offer surgery, radiology, lab work, pharmacy, and extensive rehab services. Leaders say it's a major investment in Horry County's growing community.
2. City Of Myrtle Beach Denies Permits For Rock Fest (wfxb.com) — Myrtle Beach officials have denied permits for the proposed Rock Fest, creating a major obstacle for the new three-day music festival that was planned for May during an already packed event season. City leaders say back-to-back major events like bike weeks and CCMF strain staff and resources, and council has not yet voted on whether Rock Fest should move forward.
3. Myrtle Beach poverty simulation puts local leaders in families' shoes (wbtw.com) — Local leaders and residents in Myrtle Beach spent Friday role-playing families living on tight budgets during a poverty simulation at the Mary C. Canty Recreation Center. Organized by the Waccamaw Economic Opportunity Council, the exercise walked participants through paying bills, securing housing, and finding food, with organizers hoping it inspires new programs to better support struggling families across the Grand Strand.
4. Ice rink survey aims to gauge interest in the Grand Strand (wmbfnews.com) — A local organizer is surveying Myrtle Beach residents to measure support for building an ice rink, hoping strong interest will attract partners and funding. With hockey players and skaters now driving to Florence, Charleston, or Wilmington, supporters say a rink here could boost recreation options and bring new economic activity to the Grand Strand.
