Organized by the Myrtle Beach Fire Department's Opioid Response Team, the gathering highlighted both heartbreaking personal stories and encouraging progress, including a drop in city overdose deaths from 69 in 2023 to 37 in 2025.
2. Should Myrtle Beach split into council districts? Residents will decide (myrtlebeachonline.com) — Myrtle Beach leaders are asking residents whether the city should move from at-large council seats to a district-based system, potentially reshaping how neighborhoods are represented. Informational sessions, likely in larger venues around town, would gauge support for putting the question on a future ballot. Any change, if approved by voters, could take several years to fully implement.
3. Police report: Driver didn't see 3-year-old before deadly Myrtle Beach crash (wpde.com) — A 3-year-old Myrtle Beach girl died after being struck by a truck in a parking lot on Greens Boulevard, with police saying the driver did not see her crossing in front of the vehicle. First responders rushed her to Grand Strand Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Myrtle Beach police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
4. 'No longer sustainable': Longtime North Myrtle Beach restaurant to close after 27 years (wpde.com) — A longtime dining staple at Barefoot Landing, Greg Norman Australian Grille in North Myrtle Beach, will permanently close after 27 years, with its final day of service set for October 15. Owners say the seasonal nature of the market has made operations unsustainable. Guests can still use gift cards through closing, and refunds are available for those unable to visit in time.
