📰 News we're reading

1. Myrtle Beach leaders push for Interstate 73 funding (myfox8.com) — Local leaders from Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand are uniting to press federal officials for funding to finally build Interstate 73, which would give the area a long-sought direct interstate link. They argue the project is vital for tourism, freight movement, hurricane evacuation, and protecting thousands of local jobs tied to the region's $26 billion tourism economy.

2. Countdown is on: Historic Myrtle Beach hotel to be demolished. When to see it fall (myrtlebeachonline.com) — A longtime Myrtle Beach landmark, the Sea Dip Inn on North Ocean Boulevard, will be demolished this month to make way for a new 400-room Drury Inn. Crews will use a high-reach demolition machine and plan to recycle most of the building materials, while a broader planned unit development and 10-year timeline reshape this stretch of downtown oceanfront.

3. Myrtle Beach Area After Labor Day Relaxes Laws — But Not All at Once, and Not Everywhere MyrtleBeachSC News (myrtlebeachsc.com) — As Myrtle Beach shifts into the post–Labor Day season, beach rules ease for dogs, bikes, tents, and surfing, but fines and many safety regulations still carry real consequences. The article breaks down differing ordinances and parking rules from Myrtle Beach to Surfside and Horry County, while warning that lifeguard coverage and water testing shrink just as locals reclaim a quieter, but less supervised, shoreline.

4. Murrells Inlet man facing charges after 2 shooting incidents in Myrtle Beach, Longs area (wbtw.com) — A Murrells Inlet man is jailed on a $250,000 bond after police linked him to two summer shootings, including one where about 10 rounds were allegedly fired during an argument in Myrtle Beach. Investigators say shell casings from that incident matched an earlier Longs-area shooting that damaged a victim's truck, tying both cases together.

5.
