📰 News we're reading

1. Sick of the sea? A new artificial wave park could be coming to Myrtle Beach (myrtlebeachonline.com) — Myrtle Beach officials are considering a major Wavegarden surf park and resort at Broadway at the Beach, with the developer investing at least $150 million and the city offering up to $20 million in incentives. Early projections show millions in new tax revenue and hundreds of thousands of annual visitors, but the project still needs final council approval before construction could begin in 2027.

2. Coastal flood advisory in place for Myrtle Beach area until Tuesday evening (myrtlebeachonline.com) — A coastal flood advisory is in effect for the Myrtle Beach area from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with minor flooding possible on low-lying roads, causeways, and spots along the Intracoastal Waterway. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid driving through water, secure flood‑prone property, and use extra caution near the ocean, where currents and surf conditions may be hazardous.

3. Some Grand Strand Beach Rules Change After Labor Day (wfxb.com) — Myrtle Beach residents can now bring dogs onto the beach and boardwalk at any time of day from Sept. 8 through April 30, with tents and umbrellas allowed under specific placement rules. North Myrtle Beach and Surfside have also relaxed dog, bike, surfing and fishing restrictions for the off-season, while lifeguards remain on Horry County beaches through mid-September.

4. Myrtle Beach Walmart store to close. Here's why and for how long (myrtlebeachonline.com) — A Myrtle Beach Walmart Neighborhood Market at 3915 North Kings Highway will temporarily close for about four weeks starting Sept. 21 for a full remodel, though its pharmacy and fuel station will stay open. Shoppers are being directed to two nearby Myrtle Beach Walmart locations while crews update aisles, lighting, fresh food options, specialty services, and online pickup and delivery areas.

5. Myrtle Beach could soon expand beach parking for golf carts, scooters (wpde.com) — Myrtle Beach leaders are moving forward with an ordinance to expand beach parking options for golf carts, mopeds and scooters at certain street ends, aiming to ease congestion and improve rule compliance. City council is also weighing a budget change to fund a new full-time special events position using accommodations tax revenue, which officials say won't affect the general fund.
