Today's riddle: I'm a rock group with 4 members; one member was assassinated. What am I? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Myrtle Beach City Council Approves First Reading For Surf Park (wfxb.com) — Myrtle Beach City Council has given initial approval for a $150 million surf park and hospitality complex at the former Palace Theater site near Broadway at the Beach, including up to $20 million in city incentives. The plan calls for a six-acre surf lagoon, hotel, and retail space, with city funds only released after 80% completion and a second council vote still required.
2. City takes bite out of North Myrtle Beach cookie company. Why its cart shut down (myrtlebeachonline.com) — A North Myrtle Beach cookie maker who sells in area restaurants and at the local farmers market has been forced to shut down his popular neighborhood cart after a complaint triggered enforcement of the city's mobile vending rules. City council is now weighing changes to the ordinance, leaving his business and nearby Grand Strand customers waiting to see if the cart can return.
3. 'Coastal Vendetta': Grand Strand author releases 10th Myrtle Beach mystery (wpde.com) — Grand Strand author Caleb Wygal is releasing "Coastal Vendetta," the 10th installment in his Myrtle Beach Mystery Series, which continues to use Myrtle Beach and nearby communities as its backdrop. Ahead of the Sept. 29 release, he'll host a Sept. 26 launch event at Legends Theater at Broadway at the Beach with advance copies, a Q&A, and a short performance.
4. This Is Carolina: The putt-putt league bringing people together (wmbfnews.com) — A growing social putt-putt league based in the Grand Strand is drawing nearly 100 players and now has its sights set on expanding into Myrtle Beach and Murrells Inlet. Organizers hope to eventually crown a true "putt-putt champion of Myrtle Beach," while locals enjoy weekly, low-pressure competition, outdoor activity, and a chance to meet new friends across the coast.
5. Grand Strand drivers feel pinch as gas prices climb (wmbfnews.com) — Myrtle Beach drivers are seeing gas prices jump sharply, with a 13-cent increase in just two days and diesel nearing $6 a gallon. Locals say the higher costs are squeezing their budgets, changing how often they drive, and even reducing trips to area farmers markets and small businesses across the Grand Strand.
