Myrtle Beach police chief emphasizes transparency, community ties at National Night Out (wbtw.com) — Myrtle Beach's new police chief, Frederick Chambers, used National Night Out to stress transparency and stronger relationships with residents, especially children. Locals explored safety resources, shared concerns about communication, and met community groups, while Chambers prepares for a public swearing-in ceremony this Friday at Ocean Reef Resort that residents are invited to attend.
2. Myrtle Beach youth football program gets nationally ranked, headed to playoffs (wbtw.com) — A Myrtle Beach 10U travel football team, the Megalodons, is undefeated at 8-0 and heading into nationally ranked playoffs, with a potential championship game hosted locally at Socastee High School. Players and coaches say they're proud to represent Myrtle Beach, practicing at Surfside Christian Church as they prepare every weekend for their Oct. 31 playoff run.
3. 10 arrests made after law enforcement operation in Longs (myhorrynews.com) — Law enforcement made 10 arrests in a major operation Wednesday morning in the Longs area of Horry County, after residents reported helicopters, loud bangs, and heavy police presence. Horry County Police, federal agencies, and Myrtle Beach–area Homeland Security officials seized drugs, guns, and cash in what they describe as an ongoing effort to curb violent crime and trafficking countywide.
4. Lawsuit accuses Myrtle Beach Classic Sponsor of being 'the hallmark of a Ponzi Scheme' (wpde.com) — One of the title sponsors of the Myrtle Beach Classic, ONEflight International, is facing multiple federal lawsuits alleging its business model resembled a Ponzi scheme and has paused flight operations. While the city has not yet commented, Visit Myrtle Beach says it will continue sponsoring the PGA Tour event in 2027 and remains committed to its regional benefits.
5. Police: Explosive device found at North Myrtle Beach access could cause significant injury (wpde.com) — Police say a small homemade explosive device found near the 12th Avenue North beach access in North Myrtle Beach could have caused serious injury, but was safely removed by the Horry County bomb squad. Investigators are asking anyone who was near the access Sunday afternoon, or who has photos or video from the area, to contact their Investigations Division.
