Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- The Grand Strand is hoppin' with Halloween events and more this weekend. There is almost too much to list, but here goes! Thirty vendors will be participating in the 2022 Fall Craft Fair at American Legion Post 179 in Murrells Inlet Saturday starting at 9 a.m. A Halloween Helicopter Treat Drop is happening at Thompson Farm Saturday at 10 a.m. North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad is having its annual Fish Fry & Barbecue Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ocean Drive Elementary School. Cost is $15 for all-you-can-eat. The Conway Halloween Golf Cart Parade kicks off at 11 a.m. on Saturday. BooFest at Barefoot Landing begins at noon on Saturday. Buoys on the Boulevard is hosting a trunk-or-treat at the O.D. Pavilion Arcade Saturday at 4:30 p.m. Howl-O-Scream is happening at NMB Park and Sports Complex at 5 p.m. Saturday. Halloween Bash on the Avenue will be at Broadway at the Beach Saturday at 7 p.m. Also at 7 p.m. on Saturday is Halloween Haunted Trail happening behind the Conway Sports and Fitness Center. The three-day Jeep Jam Festival is in full swing in Myrtle Beach through Sunday at the old Myrtle Square Mall site, 2501 North Kings Highway. More events listed below!
- A Little River woman is accused of driving under the influence, causing a crash on Highway 90, then leaving the scene. The woman is facing several charges including hit-and-run resulting in great bodily injuries and felony driving under the influence. The woman was driving an SUV and hit a motorcyclist Thursday night. The woman failed to yield the right of way, hit the motorcycle and drove away according to highway patrol. She is being held at Long Detention Center. The condition of the motorcyclist has not been released. (WMBF)
- Gubernatorial candidate Joe Cunningham (D) stopped in Myrtle Beach Thursday evening to talk to voters about his plans if he is elected governor of South Carolina. Cunningham says it's time for new leadership in the state. Meanwhile, incumbent Governor Henry McMaster (R) will be making his own appearance on the Grand Strand November 3. (WBTW)
- Grand Strand Humane Society is looking for homes for nearly 200 cats in its care. The shelter says it has become inundated with black cats. Nearly half of the shelter's kitties are black cats, which are known for being overlooked in a shelter setting. Area shelters have been hit hard this year with too many unwanted pets and GSHS is no exception. The shelter is full. GSHS is having a Walk for the Animals event at Tanger Outlets today starting at 11 a.m. Adoption fees for cats and kittens will be waived. (wpde.com)
- Brookgreen Gardens has announced that a ticket sale scam was discovered connected to advance tickets for its popular Nights of a Thousand Candles holiday extravaganza. Brookgreen says the only legitimate place to purchase tickets is on its website, by telephone,or by using its ticketing company, ShowClix. Any other source should be avoided as customers may not receive valid tickets at all because of so many scams going around. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
Today's picture was taken by...me! This cardinal likes to greet patients at Prime Pet Rehab on Mr. Joe White Avenue in Myrtle Beach. The bird pecks at the window and sometimes brings a present. A huge shout out to Dr. Walsh and the Prime Pet staff for rehabilitating my dog!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
