Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Documents from a motion filed this week in the 'Doc' Antle case indicate that he is accused of trying to sell Myrtle Beach Safari to an LLC owned by China York who lives at the park. The motion requests that Antle's bond conditions be modified after the federal government received information from the USDA and York's lawyer indicating Antle wants to sell the safari park that was featured in the Netflix series,"Tiger King." The government asked the court to modify the bond and "not permit Antle to transfer the title of the Myrtle Beach Safari Park and not permit the transfer of any animal listed under the Endangered Species Act." The motion will be heard Friday at the federal courthouse in Florence. (WMBF)
  2. The City of Myrtle Beach has dropped all charges against seven Myrtle Beach Black Lives Matter protesters. A judge ruled that the city had not proven its disorderly conduct case against one protester who was set to go to trial this week. The next day, misdemeanor charges against the remaining protestors were eliminated. The peaceful protest had taken place on May 31, 2020 amid a city-wide curfew that was put in place in the wake of demonstrations throughout the U.S. after the murder of Minnesotan George Floyd. 3. Eleven local lawmakers from the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee voted in favor of a new abortion bill for South Carolina. The bill that has been labeled as a "total ban" on abortion allows for abortions up to 12 weeks after conception in cases of rape or incest, while the state's standard abortion law stands as-is allowing the procedure up to the sixth week of pregnancy. However, the SC Supreme Court suspended the standard law recently citing an unreasonable invasion of privacy. Therefore, abortions are allowed in SC up until 20 weeks of pregnancy for the time being. The new bill has to jump a few more hurdles, including passing a majority vote in the Senate. (wpde.com) (WBTW)
  4. A broken sprinkler system pipe caused significant flooding and water damage on two floors of Horry County Courthouse this week. Crews spent upwards of twelve hours remediating the situation that caused large scale water damage of several offices and damaged documents and paperwork. The leak was discovered by workers who were laying down new carpeting. At least one trial was delayed and some administrative staff temporarily worked at the nearby Cathy Floyd building. For the most part, court business carried on as usual. (WBTW)
  5. Horry County Police are investigating a shooting on Centennial Circle in Carolina Forest. At the time of this posting, there is scant information available. Authorities say there is no threat to the public. No injuries have been reported. The incident happened at about 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Heavy police presence was seen in the area, which is very unusual for this neighborhood. (wpde.com) (WBTW)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Cherry Grove reader Tracey Vegliante sent in this fabulous sunrise pic! Tracey says she just loves the sky, the waves and the darker colors. I couldn't agree more, it looks like a postcard! Thanks for the gorgeous photo, Tracey.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
