Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- An arrest has been made in connection with the Halloween night sexual assault at the Cove Apartments near Highway 544 and University Boulevard. Conway Police took 17-year-old Jarael Warren into custody, and he was booked into Long Detention Center on Tuesday night. The Conway PD worked in conjunction with the CCUPD, U.S. Marshalls and SLED. Police have also confirmed that the assault victim's 2015 Subaru Legacy, which was stolen and used as a getaway car by the suspects, has been found. (WMBF)
- CCU's Social Justice Club held a protest on campus to raise awareness about safety after the aforementioned assault. One college senior who spoke at the rally said they were aware of more than 25 assaults that took place on campus in the four years they have been at the university. The students are seeking improved safety measures such as lighting, blue-light emergency boxes, and cameras, as well as emotional support resources. (wpde.com)
- A few weeks after city officials shut down the Coral Sands Motel for code violations, Myrtle Beach City Council voted to demolish the building altogether. The motel had a history of drug sales and prostitution. Operation of the motel was suspended for one year recently, after a nuisance injunction was filed. The poor condition of the property was a factor in the more recent ruling. It is not yet known when the building will be demolished. (MyHorryNews.com)
- A Myrtle Beach man was sentenced to 8 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to possession of fentanyl with intent to distribute. The case dates back to July of 2020, at which time Shamar Jabarns McCollum was arrested for an outstanding warrant and discovered to have been in possession of heroin, fentanyl, and a digital scale. He has been sentenced to 96 months (8 years) in prison, plus three years of court supervision, without parole. The ATF and Myrtle Beach Police worked together on the investigation. (ABC NEWS 4)
- Starting this week, through November 19th, parents of Horry County public schoolchildren can decide whether they want their student(s) to participate in virtual learning or face-to-face classroom instruction for the second semester. The semester begins on January 18, 2022. Students can switch from in-person learning to virtual, or vice-versa, but must make one choice now, and stick to that choice. For convenience, each option has separate deadlines. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
