Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Five cyclists completed their 3,000-mile journey for charity in Surfside Beach this past weekend. The group began their ride in California to support the Ashley G. Foundation. They had the usual obstacles along the way: flat tires, being chased by dogs and other challenges. The group says it was a hard ride but well worth it to honor Ashley Gaines, the foundation's namesake, to whom they have a personal connection. Gaines died from lymphoma in 2018. The foundation has raised $800,000 to help children and teens with lymphoma. (WMBF)
  2. Federal authorities have filed documents to begin the process of seizing a parcel of Doc Antle's land near Myrtle Beach Safari. The action is pending in district court. A notice indicates that federal authorities are "seeking judicial forfeiture" of the land. Antle's attorney says the government returned seized property in exchange for a lis pendens on the land. Antle faces a number of other charges in SC and Virginia. (WBTW)
  3. Conway police are asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle that may be connected to a recent theft in Horry County. The vehicle is connected to "multiple grand larceny cases" according to authorities. The most recent incident occurred at Tractor Supply on the corner of Four Mile Road and Highway 501. A trailer was stolen during that incident. The vehicle of interest is shown in the photo accompanying the WMBF article. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Conway PD at (843) 248-1790. (WMBF)
  4. A charity basketball tournament at the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand is happening August 6. Alumni from several area high schools will compete for a good cause. The tournament is organized by Akeem Hemingway, the older brother of Darius Hemingway who was killed in a shooting in 2020. All money raised will go toward Darius Hemingway's Toy Drive — the charity Darius set up shortly before his death. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

This brilliant sunrise photo was submitted by reader Judy Banas who grabbed this pic recently at Doolittle Lake in the Emmens Preserve neighborhood near Market Common. The picture was taken at 5:55 a.m. Nice work, Judy!

  • It's a good thing some Horry County personnel took part in those horse care courses recently because crews were able to quickly round up a horse on the loose this weekend. The runaway equine was causing traffic woes mid-morning on Saturday near East Cox Ferry Road and Conway Plantation Drive. (WMBF)

You're officially in the loop for Monday, everybody. See you all Tuesday morning for another edition of the Myrtle Beach Daily!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
