Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. An update to the story of the Pomeranian dog named Marshall that died after it was attacked by a larger dog: Myrtle Beach police have located the larger dog, and have identified the owner and the people who witnessed the attack. Marshall's owners filed a police report and after the story had been broadcast for a couple days, the police were able to gather tips and locate the people involved. Police have not given any info on whether or not charges will be filed. More information should be released over the weekend. (WMBF)
  2. That RV park that was proposed to be put on 17.5 acres near Bojangles on Highway 544 in Conway has been given a thumbs down by Horry County planning commissioners. The property developers made a rezoning request but the commission couldn't be persuaded to see its way to approving the request, which will now go to Conway City Council. (Myhorrynews)
  3. During his visit to Myrtle Beach on Thursday for the grand opening of a plasma donation center, Governor McMaster reassured the public that he is committed to allotting $300 million for the completion of Interstate 73. About a month ago, Horry County Councilman Harold Worley stated that the project would not happen. (WBTW)
  4. A public health student from Virginia will receive a full scholarship at Coastal Carolina University after becoming this semester's grand prize winner in the school's Vax to the Max incentive program. The scholarship, valued at almost $20,000, was awarded to Madison Klump during a random drawing. There were also four $2,500 scholarships awarded. Students who uploaded or submitted their COVID-19 proof of vaccination records to the school's Health Services department were eligible to win the scholarships. (WMBF)
  5. After a fire Saturday in North Myrtle Beach on Tidewater Drive, neighbors gathered together to console the homeowner who was saved from the fire. Friends will be taking in the man who was about to take a shower when he heard someone pounding on his front door and windows, and he was able to get out of the burning house. The home sustained mostly damage to the attic area above the garage, and witnesses said flames were seen coming out of the roof. One firefighter injured his shoulder at the scene, but there were no other reported injuries. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
