Today's top 5 news stories for the Grand Strand area:

  1. Horry County is working on beach re-nourishment projects that essentially involve dredging sand from offshore and replacing it onto the beach with heavy equipment. Erosion is a fact of life here. The projects are partially federally-funded and coordinated by the Myrtle Beach Shore Protection Program. (WBTW)
  2. A newly-signed bill by Governor McMaster will ease restrictions on micro-distilleries such as Twelve 33 Distillery in Little River. The Micro-Distillery Parity Act allows for expanded hours, increased tasting limits, and the ability to be open on Sundays. (WBTW)
  3. An off-duty Horry County police officer was injured and dubbed a hero after helping at a twin-engine plane crash site in Socastee on Friday. Unfortunately, the sole occupant of the plane did not survive the crash, which occurred 2.5 miles north of Myrtle Beach International Airport. (WPDE)
  4. Buckle Up, South Carolina, a new campaign to encourage people to wear their seat belts, coincides with Memorial Day Weekend. South Carolina Highway Patrol will head up the campaign beginning today, through June 6, the time when most fatal motor vehicle incidents occur in our area. (WMBF)
  5. Some residents in Carolina Forest have voiced their concerns that a new multipurpose path is simply too close to Carolina Forest Boulevard. The path will be used for bicycle access, walking, and running. Some sections of the path are thought have too small of a buffer between the path and the main road. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
