🌱 Bike Week Begins + Atalaya Fest Success + Depression In Kids
The Myrtle Beach Daily is the quickest way to get caught up on what's happening today on the Grand Strand.

Welcome back, Myrtle Beach! Here's everything you need to know to get this Tuesday started off right.
First, today's weather:
Clear throughout the day. High: 83 Low: 68.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- The unofficial headquarters for Myrtle Beach Bike Week is ready for the fall event that attracts more locals than vacationers, as compared to the annual spring event that is held every May before Memorial Day. Even though COVID-19 put a damper on fall bike week 2020, the event last year brought the biggest crowds ever to the famous Murrells Inlet biker bar, Suck Bang Blow. The bar, named for the sounds a Harley-Davidson motorcycle makes, is located where the two 17s meet in Murrells Inlet. SBB is ready to roll for the 23rd Annual Fall Bike Week, starting today through October 3rd. (wpde.com)
- Over the weekend, the Atalaya Arts & Crafts Festival returned to Huntington Beach State Park, after being cancelled last year due to COVID-19. Accommodations were in place to incorporate social distancing and safety at the mostly outdoor event. Attendance was up 40%, and thousands flooded the oceanfront State Park located in Murrells Inlet. Atalaya Castle showcased artwork and sculptures, as well as bluegrass music, but moved the food stations, musicians and some artists outdoors to help with COVID-19 protocols. (WMBF)
- Horry County Police are investigating a death that took place on Hemingway Chapel Road on Monday. There were no specific details available at the time of this post, and police say the public is not in danger. (WBTW)
- Physicians are noticing an uptick in cases of depression and other mental health cases due to COVID-19-related issues, particularly in youth. Pediatrician Dr. Marc Bahan told WMBF News that kids being restricted from interacting with friends in school, confusion about what is happening, and the loss of loved ones to the illness has caused more cases of pediatric depression. Experts recommend eating healthy, exercising, sleeping well, and resisting the desire to check social media — all of which can help stave off depression symptoms in children, teens, and adults. Bahan said sometimes cognitive behavior therapy, or drugs, are necessary treatments. (WMBF)
- A man who was shot in the head on September 22nd during an altercation in Georgetown County has died. The county coroner, Chase Ridgeway, says Raekwon Grant, 26, died on Sunday from injuries sustained during the incident. The shooter was arrested for attempted murder and other charges, and is being held without bond at Georgetown County Detention Center. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
