First, today's weather:

A t-storm in the afternoon. High: 80 Low: 61.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Day two of the murder trial of Derrick Rivera, who was accused of killing two people at Waccamaw Bingo Parlor in 2019, featured testimony from Rivera's co-defendant, Bradford Britton. Britton pleaded guilty to charges of accessory after the fact, and testified for the prosecution. Britton, who has not yet been sentenced, said he wanted to "do the right thing and tell the truth" in helping the prosecution convict Rivera. (Myhorrynews)
  2. The streak is over. Coastal Carolina University Chanticleers were undefeated until Appalachian State overtook them at the last minute Wednesday night in a 30-27 win. This is the first football game the Chants lost since November of 2019. (WPDE)
  3. Evictions and foreclosures are inching up all across Horry County, but surprisingly they are below pre-pandemic levels. The COVID-19-related eviction moratorium was lifted in August, and South Carolina has seen an uptick in both evictions and foreclosures, but the numbers are keeping pace with the rest of the country. South Carolina ranks eighth in foreclosure rates across all 50 states. (WBTW)
  4. North Myrtle Beach leaders say they're owed a portion of leftover RIDE ll funds. Pat Dowling, a spokesperson for the City of NMB said some taxes from RIDE II were collected in North Myrtle and that money should be used for infrastructure and transportation improvements in the city. Approximately $6 million out of a total of $30 million is in question. (WMBF)
  5. Residents of Carolina Forest do not appear to be in favor of rezoning Wizard Golf Course for development. Wednesday night, at a community meeting, locals expressed their concerns about the proposed rezoning plan for the unused golf course. The plan would add 683 residential properties to the overpopulated section of the Grand Strand. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
