Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The Myrtle Beach barricade suspect was denied bond by a judge at a hearing on Thursday. Judge Joi Page said the suspect is a flight risk and a danger to society. Page denied bond on 14 attempted murder charges and an arson charge. Bond had been requested for $50,000 in the animal cruelty charge and $10,000 for each of the other charges. A trial is set for February. (WBTW)
  2. Myrtle Beach Police arrested a man accused of raping a woman in his apartment after she used his laundry machines. The woman was in the suspect's apartment to do her laundry because her machines were broken. When she tried to leave the apartment, she said the man sexually assaulted her. She was able to escape and went to the hospital. The man was arrested and charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and is being held without bond at Long Detention Center. (WMBF)
  3. Starting June 10, 2o23, travelers in Denver and Myrtle Beach will be able to fly between the two cities on Southwest airlines. The non-stop flights will service the farthest airport west of the Mississippi from Myrtle Beach and will offer a new connection for people wanting to get to other west coast destinations. (WBTW)
  4. The Horry County Sheriff's Office wants parents to be aware of registered sex offender homes ahead of trick-or-treating in the area. While the SC Probation, Parole and Pardon Services has a curfew in place for supervised sex offenders, not every sex offender is under supervision. Parents should go to the department's website and search their neighborhood to find out where registered sex offenders live. (WMBF)
  5. Due to supply chain issues and shortages, Help4Kids has canceled its October donations. The organization provides food to children in Horry County who do not have enough to eat. Unfortunately, the organization has had difficulty getting enough food and had to cancel its program for the month. There are other ways to help. For $120 a year, sponsors can ensure that one child will have food every Friday. A website with more information is in the ABC15 article here: (wpde.com)

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
