Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Horry County announced an outdoor burn ban effective immediately for unincorporated areas of the county. The burn ban is due to extreme fire danger because of dry conditions and low humidity. (WMBF) The city of Conway has also issued a specific burn ban within Conway city limits for the same reason. (WBTW) Fire danger will remain high for the foreseeable future in the eastern Carolinas due to an unseasonably dry weather pattern. (WBTW)
  2. While we are on the subject, authorities have determined that no foul play was involved in a three-alarm fire that destroyed several businesses in Myrtle Beach at the end of October. Two office buildings were destroyed in the 1100 block of 48th Avenue North, and one other building sustained damage, at the Parkway Office Plaza. Buildings 1103 and 1105 will be torn down and rebuilt. Number 1107 will be repaired. Nine businesses housed in the complex had to be relocated. Fire officials have not released an exact cause of the blaze, and the investigation has been handed over to a private company hired by the property owner. (WBTW)
  3. Doc Antle's daughter and a companion of hers were both arrested in connection with a Myrtle Beach shooting, police say. Tawny Antle, the daughter of the Myrtle Beach Safari owner, was arrested over the weekend when the vehicle she was riding in matched a description of a car spotted near where gunshots were reported. Tawny Antle and the driver of the car were both arrested and charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol. Neither of them have concealed weapons permits. Her father, Doc Antle, became relatively famous from his involvement in the Tiger King streaming series on Netflix. (wpde.com)
  4. Myrtle Beach Police are investigating an unusual spike in crimes, including a string of car break-ins, and smash and grabs, over the four-day Thanksgiving weekend. Police are asking folks with doorbell or outdoor cameras to contact police if they have any information on suspects, or have seen or heard any suspicious activity. Police also remind everyone to lock their cars, and don't leave valuable items in vehicles. Police are also looking for suspects and information connected to several shootings during the holiday weekend. (WMBF) (WBTW)
  5. A huge shout out and thank you to everyone who volunteered or donated during the Giving Tuesday campaigns at various charities around the Grand Strand. Many people volunteered at area churches, participated in food drives and food distribution programs, and worked with United Way. I'm particularly cheered to learn that all of the Grand Strand animal shelters were supported in a big way. Shelters are so expensive to operate, and it's not always obvious how much effort goes into caring for the animals that have been surrendered to a shelter. (WBTW) (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
