Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Governor McMaster held two news conferences on Saturday. At the first conference in Columbia around noon, he announced that there were no storm-related deaths from Hurricane Ian in South Carolina. No hospitals were damaged and water systems were not affected. (WBTW) Later in the afternoon, McMaster visited Georgetown to hold a briefing on Hurricane Ian's impact with emergency management officials. (wpde.com) (WBTW)
- Cleanup was the name of the game all day Saturday throughout the Grand Strand. Pawleys Island has some restrictions in place — only homeowners and contractors were allowed to use the North Causeway on Saturday, and residents needed documentation of ownership to access the causeway. The South Causeway remained closed. Crews began working on removing the Shayna Michelle shrimp boat that had washed ashore in Myrtle Beach near Damon's Restaurant, and some great people started a fundraiser to pay for the effort as well. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
- As if wind, flooding and storm surge in Garden City wasn't enough, three homes caught fire and sustained damage on South Waccamaw Drive on Friday night while the same road was still covered in sand from storm surge. Two homes were a total loss and one had damage to its siding. (CBS17.com) (WMBF) (wpde.com) South Waccamaw Drive and North Waccamaw Drive are both closed as of the time of this posting so that crews can clean up. Officials are asking the public to stay away from Garden City beaches and hotels until further notice. (WMBF) (WBTW)
- Due to water, power and electrical issues, Ocean Lakes Family Campground announced on Saturday that it would not allow any camping guests into the facility until further notice. In addition, the campground's Halloweekends celebration scheduled for Saturday was canceled due to damage conditions at the campground and its Recreation Center. Ocean Lakes will post updates on its website and Facebook page. (WMBF)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:
Reader Ami Feller sent in this pic a while ago. Ami said Mother Nature painted this beautiful Conway sunset! I appreciate everyone's patience as I post the photos in the order received. There is quite a backlog at the moment. Keep reading daily to make sure you see your photo, if you submitted one! Thanks for the pretty shot, Ami!

From my notebook:
- Hurricane Ian tried, but failed, to cancel a couple's wedding in Pawleys Island! The rehearsal dinner went ahead as planned on Friday night and the venue even had power. Locals helped out on Saturday by retrieving supplies and wedding items that the group needed to leave behind at their rental property after they went inland Friday. The gorgeous weather on Saturday was more than welcome and the ceremony went ahead successfully. Congrats to the lucky couple! (wpde.com)
- Myrtle Beach Area Chamber Of Commerce has announced its 2023 Board Candidates. Ryan Swaim of Dunes Realty was nominated as board chairperson. A list of all the nominated board members is here in the press release: (Press Release Desk)
- Matthew Fry, 60, has found 78 lost rings around Myrtle Beach during the past seven years, thanks to his trusty metal detector equipment. Fry helps people find lost rings along with a worldwide group of metal detector enthusiasts called Ring Finders. Their slogan? "You lost it, we'll find it." Fry works on a reward-based payment system with folks generally giving him $100 to $200. If a ring is not located, he charges a $30 fee. (WCBD News 2)
- ABC15 TV viewers sent in photos of pets and other animals riding out the storm. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
