Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Former Carolina Pines RV Resort manager, Troy Bittner, was indicted by a grand jury on charges of defrauding customers of the Conway-based resort. Bittner is accused of "devising a scheme" that federal investigators say enabled him to transfer more than $800,000 from Carolina Pines' electronic payment system to his personal bank account. Most of the transactions occurred during COVID-19 when people were canceling travel plans. Bittner has pleaded not guilty. If convicted he could face up to 20 years in federal prison. (WRAL News) (WMBF) (WBTW)
  2. Two people were arrested and more than 10 kilos of cocaine was seized in a Conway drug bust. The HCPD got a tip from the Department of Homeland Security and sent its Narcotics Unit to investigate. A traffic stop led to the discovery of some cocaine, while a search warrant of a parcel of land led to more drugs, some weapons and some cash. (wpde.com)(WBTW)
  3. Horry County Schools outperformed the rest of South Carolina in the 2021-22 academic year according to just-released End-of-Course Exam results. The exams measure achievement in several core high school courses including algebra and English. Public high school students are required to take the tests. Horry County students also did well in biology and U.S. history. (WMBF) (Horry County Schools via Facebook)
  4. Brookgreen Gardens has looked the same for a long time, but some improvements may be on the way. The cultural center is looking for donations, big or small, to help its Campaign for the Next Generation. Brookgreen wants to expand its art, nature and history programs, plus add more exhibits and conservatories. The idea is to "change the face of the gardens" said Brookgreen's director of marketing. Completion of the venue's dream that began in the 1980s will cost around $20 million. (WBTW)
  5. A taste of fall is on the way! Heat and humidity are still the name of the weather game today and Thursday, but that will change overnight Thursday. A cold front is bringing in much cooler air for Friday and Saturday. Highs on both days will only be in the 70s and overnight temps may go down into the upper 50s! Hello autumn! (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
