Cases Up+Vaccine Incentive+ 911 Operators Needed+Get out Of Jail
Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing around the Grand Strand today.

Happy Sunday, Myrtle Beach! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note. Today, I'll tell you about COVID-19 cases continuing to increase in Horry County, CCU students sign up for vaccine incentive program, a push to hire more 911 operators, Spirit Airlines is almost back on track, and a local man requests a release from jail.
Here is your Sunday weather: Mostly sunny with a stray shower or thunderstorm. High: 84 Low: 73.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Horry County recorded 400 new COVID-19 cases as the area outpaces the 2020 summer surge and case numbers in other counties in South Carolina. The county is showing 21% positive testing number. The COVID-19 recovery estimate in South Carolina is 94.8%. DHEC mentioned that its test result reports were subject to a two-day delay. (wpde.com)
- Coastal Carolina University announced a scholarship incentive for students to persuade them to get vaccinated, and students pounced on the opportunity. 1,500 students applied, and 1,000 of those are already fully-vaccinated. The school is awarding four $2,500 scholarships every week for 10 weeks, as well as two grand-prize scholarships that cover full tuition, room and board for a full semester. (WMBF)
- Can't reach 911? Staffing issues may or may not be to blame, but the county is hiring more operators anyway. With the use of cell phones, some emergency calls may not get through to the call center due to a variety of reasons including the type of phone, which provider is being used, and other technology issues. New operators will need an 8-10 week training program before handling calls. (MyHorryNews.com)
- After several days of cancellations and delays, Spirit Airlines is almost back on track at Myrtle Beach International Airport. The airline cancelled a handful of flights on Saturday, compared to earlier in the week when passengers' experiences were described by one news organization as "a travel nightmare". (WBTW)
- A Little River man accused of being involved in the January 6th incident at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. has requested a release from jail. Nicholas Languerand's attorney filed the request with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Monday. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
