Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A second person has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of Patrick Smith on Halloween night. Katerena Bedjan, 27, was arrested and charged with criminal conspiracy and murder. Bedjan is being held without bail at Long Detention Center. (WBTW)
  2. Another popular musician has been added to the Carolina Country Music Fest 2022 lineup! Festival organizers announced the addition of Riley Green to its list of country acts performing at the festival. Other stars include Keith Urban, Jason Aldean, and Luke Bryan. The festival will be happening June 9 through 12, 2022 right here in Myrtle Beach. (WPDE)
  3. The director of the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism spoke this week at the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association annual meeting — its first meeting since the pandemic. His message: Tourism is back! Director Duane Parrish says 2021 was supposed to be a catch-up year, but instead Myrtle Beach has broken all-time tourism records after COVID-19 put a damper on the previous year. Also at the event, awards were presented to local members of the hospitality industry. (Myhorrynews)
  4. Lace up your walking shoes, Myrtle Beach! The city is purchasing four acres to expand walking trails in Withers Swash Park. There will be a walkable connection from Kings Highway to Broadway Street. The plan will also connect Broadway Street to the new rails for trails paths when completed. (WMBF)
  5. Officials in Georgetown County have arrested a man suspected of a series of recent automobile break-ins there. Sheriff Carter Weaver announced that an Horry County man was taken into custody and is being held at Long Detention Center. He is alleged to have been involved in car break-ins at the Debordieu and Prince George communities in Georgetown County. (WPDE)

  • Myrtle Beach veteran, Sgt. Eric Fisher, did a walk-through of his mortgage-free home for the first time on Veterans Day. The home was given to Fisher and his family through Operation Finally Home, a non-profit home building cooperative. (Myhorrynews)
  • South Carolina State Senator, Hugh Leatherman, the states oldest lawmaker, died at age 90, his chief of staff confirmed on Friday. The Republican lawmaker from Florence had been hospitalized recently and was in hospice care. His Senate career began in 1980 when he was a Democrat. He switched parties in the 1990s. (WMBF)
