Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The City of Myrtle Beach is prepared for the sold-out Carolina Country Music Fest that begins this evening at 6 p.m. Thousands of country fans are expected to converge on the downtown areas of Myrtle Beach for the next three days. The lineup includes some of the most beloved country artists of our time, such as Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean and Keith Urban. The festival ends Sunday night. (Myhorrynews) (wpde.com)
  2. Traffic control rehearsals will be conducted today on various roadways in the state, including the Highway 501 area in Horry County. The SCDOT is having statewide drills on hurricane evacuation lane reversals, as it does yearly around this time. With the significant growth of the coastal areas of South Carolina, it is crucial that motorists have an evacuation plan, and that authorities learn traffic management procedures ahead of a real storm. (WMBF)
  3. The Grand Strand got a coastline clean-up as part of World Ocean Day on Wednesday. A group of South Carolinians traveled the state's coast and held clean-up events as they went along the Grand Strand and Folly Beach, just to name two areas. World Ocean Day was set by the U.N. to bring awareness to how humans' activities can impact the ocean. Coastal clean-up efforts took place all around the globe. (WMBF)
  4. The detention hearing for Doc Antle that was originally scheduled for today has been postponed one week until the afternoon of June 16. The U.S. Attorney's Office announced that Antle's defense team requested additional time. (WBTW)
  5. Horry County Council's HOME consortium program is moving forward after a unanimous vote at this week's council meeting. The plan aims at affordable housing and preservation, improvement of infrastructure and facilities, addressing the homelessness issue, and adding more public services for the community. (wpde.com)

That's it for Thursday. See you all in about a week! Until then, enjoy all the Grand Strand has to offer, and be safe out there.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
