Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Grand Strand area tree farms are feeling the pinch during a nationwide Christmas tree shortage. In Murrells Inlet, Goodman's Tree Farm reports that finding larger trees is particularly problematic. The owners have not seen their industry impacted this deeply since the 2008 recession. Prices have also gone up. On the other hand, Booth's Christmas Tree Farm in Conway experienced record-breaking sales during Thanksgiving weekend. Booth's does report that people are shopping for their trees a little bit earlier than usual due to word spreading about the shortages and rising prices. Booth's agreed that larger, taller trees are scarce. (WMBF) (WBTW)
- The Salvation Army needs volunteers and employees in Horry County to work during the holidays. The organization says it is having difficulty finding both volunteers and paid workers. It is asking people to step up and help with the cause by becoming bell ringers at area shopping centers. The bell ringer job is a temporary, paid position. Volunteers are also sought, and area businesses, churches and clubs are being asked to help find volunteers among their staff and communities. (WPDE)
- Horry County Police have confirmed that the shooting in Carolina Forest over the weekend claimed the life of one person. The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon at Augusta Plantation Apartments, off River Oaks Drive. A victim was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made. (WMBF)
- During another shooting incident that happened late Saturday night at Sandygate Village Apartments in Myrtle Beach, police now say that the 19-year-old man they arrested was called to the apartment by a family member. The suspect argued with the victim and allegedly shot that person in the abdomen. Police were on patrol nearby and heard the gunshots. As of the time of this posting, the victim's condition is not known. (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach Fire Department and Horry County Fire Rescue both responded to a blaze on Forest Lane and Emory Road between Myrtle Beach Airport and Market Common on Monday. The neighborhood roads were shut down as a safety precaution. No injuries were reported at the time of this posting, and a cause was not mentioned. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
