Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Conway Medical Center has taken down its outdoor COVID tents, and has made masks optional for vaccinated individuals. After a late-summer 2021 surge in cases prompted the hospital to set up triage tents outside the ER entrance, it was a huge morale boost to the staff to see those tents coming down. Dr. Paul Richardson, the facility's chief medical officer, described it as "a big deal" for hospital personnel. The masking protocol is being relaxed after a steep decline in case numbers. (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach International Airport is expanding after a record-breaking influx of travelers over the past two years, that continues presently. The expansion will add about half a dozen new gates, new restrooms and restaurants, and a new TSA screening area. Design plans should be completed during the next few months, and construction will likely begin some time during 2022. (WMBF)
- The Myrtle Beach Mall has not paid last year's property taxes that were due January 15, and the corporation is facing a foreclosure lawsuit. Records indicate that the company owes over $6 million on a loan, and that the treasurer's office has not received 2021 property taxes for the mall property. Several parcels owned by Myrtle Beach Mall, LLC are also showing unpaid taxes. The total amount of taxes, with interest and penalties, is over $240,000. The mall's future is unclear, after a number of plans for its future have failed. (Myhorrynews)
- ICYMI: The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are partnering up with Bingo Drive, the free mobile bingo game where users can play online with friends anytime, anywhere. The two organizations say they're combining America's favorite social game of bingo with America's National Pastime — baseball! During Wednesday home games, the Bingo Drive car (it's pink!) will be on site for photo ops and will deliver the ball and the Pelicans' mascots to the field each game. In addition, during home games on Wednesdays, fans can play baseball bingo at Pelicans' Park with special Pelican-themed bingo "cards" on the app. (milb.com)
- SC Works has launched a new resource for South Carolina veterans searching for work. The new portal is a one-stop place for veterans throughout the state to look for work, locate help with resume writing and networking, and learn about education opportunities. SC Works Veterans Portal can also be used by employers looking to hire candidates with military experience. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
