Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Conway police are asking for the public's help in locating an "armed and dangerous" person suspected of assault. The 21-year-old man, Curtis Michael Warden, allegedly assaulted a person by using a weapon at an apartment on Highway 544. Warden is wanted for first-degree assault and battery. Conway police should be contacted with information at (843) 248-1790. (WMBF)
- Horry County Schools Superintendent, Dr. Rick Maxey, announced two changes regarding COVID-19 policies after Monday's board meeting. Maxey says the district is too big to implement a blanket system to address the virus, as omicron cases continue to rise, leading to quarantines of students and employees throughout the district. The two changes relate to the number of students absent or who tested positive within a given class, and the ability to use and submit at-home COVID test results as proof of a negative test. In-person learning is in place, and the board assesses the situation on a case-by-case scenario. (WPDE)
- On again, off again! After approving and announcing that Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bike Festival would return on Memorial Day weekend after being cancelled for two years, the town of Atlantic Beach is re-thinking the plan. The town council decided to wait until March to make a final decision on the festival, because of concerns about the spread of COVID-19. (WBTW)
- Georgetown's former police chief, a military veteran who served four years in the U.S. Army, will now lead Myrtle Beach's diversity office. Kelvin Waites brings nearly a quarter century of law enforcement and community experience on the Grand Strand to his new role as director of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). (WMBF)
- Dreisa Sherrill of North Myrtle Beach wears the crown! The Ms. South Carolina Senior America 2022 crown, that is. The title was given to Sherrill after she submitted an application for the position. Next, Ms. Sherrill will compete for the title of Ms. Senior America with representatives of all 50 states and the U.S. territories. The pageant will take place September 5 through 9, 2022 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
