Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Some Grand Strand and Pee Dee law enforcement officers were caught cutting corners on mandatory training requirements. Officers were required to watch a training video on domestic violence, and some were discovered to have fast forwarded through parts of the video instead of watching the piece in its entirety. The South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy girector, Lewis J. Jackie Swindler, discovered the cheating after learning of a Facebook post where officers were commenting about the video. Watching the entire video is mandatory for training. Local police departments will handle disciplinary action as they see fit, said Swindler. (WPDE).
- A Myrtle Beach woman will appear in court today to face charges that her 125-pound bullmastiff dog attacked and killed two dogs in the city, on two separate occasions — November 21st, and November 24th. The dog is currently being held in boarding pending the outcome of the case. Court documents indicate the dog had a "history, propensity or inclination to attack." The owner of the bullmastiff was not home when the most recent incident occurred. Another woman was taking care of the dog in the owner's absence, but that person returned to their home state of Minnesota. A warrant has been issued for that woman's arrest. Witnesses say the Minnesota woman and two others immediately left with the dog after the attack on November 24th, and did not express any remorse. (WMBF)
- Residents who love Crescent Beach prefer it just the way it is, but city leaders would like to infuse the area with new life in the form of more hotels and businesses to revitalize the popular section of North Myrtle Beach. Crescent Beach goes from 10th Avenue South to 27th Avenue South, with 17th Avenue South in the middle acting as a sort of "main street" of the cute neighborhood. Leaders would like to rezone parts of 17th Avenue as "resort commercial." Residents are not too keen on what rezoning would welcome — mega-resorts, hi-rise condos, and too much traffic. (WMBF)
- Conway City Council passed a new rule banning open carry of guns inside of city buildings or during city-sponsored events. The new gun law passed unanimously at this week's meeting. Other nearby cities, including North Myrtle Beach and Florence, have adopted the same stance. North Myrtle Beach has not yet addressed the rule for city-sponsored events, however. Other cities in the general vicinity, such as Darlington and Hartsville are likely to follow suit. (WBTW)
- Toronto-based Porter Airlines has announced it will resume service to and from Myrtle Beach after a two-year pause in service. The Canadian airline will operate nonstop flights twice a week, starting on March 9, 2022. Myrtle Beach is a popular vacation destination for Canadians. (WMBF)

The event will start from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. December 11th and December 18th. Scheduled stops are noted in the article here. (WPDE)
- A couple of unusual crimes happened nearby this week. A Myrtle Beach man rammed his vehicle into the vehicle in front of him on Highway 501 while accelerating for half a mile, targeting a sole vehicle specifically. The incident was captured on video by a witness. (WBTW) Another man set fire in a Myrtle Beach Waffle House bathroom after locking himself in there for 4 hours. He's being charged with second-degree arson and trespassing. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
Have a news tip or suggestion for an upcoming Myrtle Beach Daily? I'm all ears. You can email me at myrtlebeach@patch.com.
