Happy Sunday, people of Myrtle Beach! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note. Today, I'll tell you about an increase in COVID-19 cases and Governor McMaster's position on restrictions, Horry County schools are building up the turf on high school athletic fields, a Facebook group helped nab a child sex trafficking suspect, and justice for a local family.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- COVID-19 cases are trending upward in SC after new numbers were released post-July 4th. Since July 6, the report indicates that Horry County is leading the rest of the state with confirmed and probable cases; but the following week Horry County was second, behind Lexington County. (wpde.com)
- Governor McMaster's office, when asked if the state would be requiring masks indoors again, stated that the Governor "will not allow for restriction of South Carolinians in any way" in light of the COVID-19 case increases. The office's communications director stated that citizens "know what to do to protect themselves and the vaccine is available to anyone who wants it." (WBTW)
- Horry County Schools is moving ahead with a project to build up high school athletic fields with synthetic turf. The turf will be installed on eight athletic areas in the county, and will coast about $9.5 million. It will take a couple years to complete, but some fields are expected to be finished in the fall of 2022. (WMBF)
- According to an affidavit included in Federal court documents relating to the child sex trafficking case that had a connection in Myrtle Beach, a Facebook group was instrumental in nabbing the suspects. The group alerted investigators to a video that was circulating online. The video showed a man meeting a minor outside of a Myrtle Beach hotel. (WMBF)
- A Greenwood, SC man pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in prison in the May, 2020 shooting death of Cedric Elmore, Jr. The shooting occurred in a parking lot on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach. The victim's family was present in the courtroom for the hearing, and expressed their appreciation to the MB Police Department in bringing justice to the defendant. (MyHorryNews)
