Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- North Myrtle Beach City Council approved the final reading of a rezoning request to allow for bigger hotels, condos and commercial buildings in Crescent Beach. Residents of the neighborhood are disappointed by the vote, but the two sides did reach a compromise after several months of meetings and workshops on the rezoning issue. (WBTW)
- State Rep. William Bailey (R) has announced that he is running for re-election. Bailey was first elected in 2018, and represents Horry County in District 104. He was going to go up against U.S. Rep. Tom Rice, but decided re-election for his current position was a better option. Bailey is on the General Assembly's Judiciary Committee and the Interstate Cooperation Committee. (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach Fire Department took to social media to create a clever post announcing the addition of two new ambulances to its fleet. The Facebook Watch post described the vehicles as "studs" and a "dreamy duo" taller than six feet and able to save lives! The new ambulances are replacing two vehicles with more than 100,000 miles and 15,000 engine hours each. The two older vehicles will be placed into the city's reserve unit. The new vehicles have some state-of-the-art features and improvements that will help the department significantly. (wpde.com)
- Myrtle Beach City Council selected a new chief municipal judge in a 4-3 vote. Joi Page was named as the next person to lead Myrtle Beach municipal court. The current judge, Jennifer Wilson, is retiring on March 31. Page has been with Myrtle Beach for 22 years as assistant city attorney, prosecutor, and victim advocate division head. (WMBF)
- Myrtle Beach Police have put out a warning for people to be extra vigilant in the Market Common area after a rash of reports about people checking for unlocked doors on vehicles and homes. The department posted on Facebook about the incidents, and said if you see something, say something. The police are asking the public for photos or videos of the activity. The Intelligence Unit can be emailed at: intelunit@cityofmyrtlebeach.com or call (843) 918-1382. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
